"IAPT confidentiality"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as the patient),

Breach of confidentiality.

I as anyone who feels the need to reach out to IAPT assume high levels of confidentiality. Mine was breached and information shared with the general public after my first phone interview / screening. Even after specifically covering this on the call.

It seems to me IAPT confidentiality rules are quite loose, also they seem to have the ability to collate and share patient identifiable data unless you specifically tell them not to.

I find this a shocking abuse of trust.

Thankfully I found out now before I shared even more personal and sensitive information with them.

Dear Joe 1001, thank you for sharing your story with us on Patient Opinion.

We are sorry that you are concerned about the confidentiality of the IAPT service.

As your experience is not how we would have wanted it to be, I have asked IAPT to review your story so we can respond with further detail.

I wanted to let you know that we have read your story and appreciate the comments you have made.

A further response will be made by Friday 12th September.

Regards

Janet

Dear Joe 1001, As a healthcare organisation the confidentiality of our patients’ information is of utmost importance and we operate within strict guidelines to ensure this. We would not expect any of our patient’s information to be shared in any way that would breach their confidentiality and certainly take any concerns about this very seriously. As we do not have the details we are not able to review and respond to you on the specifics of what you have said. However we would be very happy to do this if you contacted us directly via the complaints department at West London Mental Health NHS Trust who could then arrange an way that is acceptable to you to discuss this and resolve your concerns.

Regards

Janet
