"Faultless treatment."

About: Darent Valley Hospital

I was admitted to Rowan ward following complications arising from keyhole surgery that I had undergone at a different hospital the previous week. My wife contacted the NHS helpline (111) and some 10 minutes later we we contacted with an appointment time. We were seen promptly and I was admitted immediately and transferred to Rowan ward. From the time of arrival my treatment was superb. I was initially under the supervision of a junior doctor who was very competent - reassuring and visiting regularly to monitor my progress. Following a turn for the worse (kidney shutdown and double pneumonia) I was placed under the supervision of the doctor who kept me fully informed regarding my state of health and progress. At one point consideration was given to transferring me to Kings but I declined this as I had every confidence in the treatment that I was receiving at Darenth Valley. The doctor visited me on a daily basis at least once and frequently twice daily including weekends to review my progress. The doctor then went on holiday abroad but still continued to monitor my progress and treatment daily by telephone from a distance. My admission co-incided with a statement from the heath minister suggesting that consultants and doctors on the NHS did not work weekends and generally suggesting that commitment was lacking. I have never heard such complete and utter politically motivated nonsense. They should check their facts or perhaps take the time to visit some of the dedicated medical staff before coming out with such sweeping statements. I was incredibly impressed with all of the staff that cared for me in Rowan ward and credit should go to the senior sister for running such an efficient and cheerful ward. Without exception the nursing and support staff were cheerful and caring and very effective. My heartfelt thanks go to all the dedicated staff who cared for me during my 3 week stay. They made a frightening and traumatic time much less stressful for me and my family with their exceptional treatment. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I received during my stay. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Darenth Valley Hospital to anyone who needs hospital treatment.
