"Emergency care for finger injury"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I stupidly chopped part of the tip off my finger off whilst preparing Sunday lunch. It bled copiously but I was not in pain and certainly not an acute emergency. I was seen after not much more than an hour, treated, which took some time as the bleeding had to stop and then sent home with very clear after care instructions and supplies.

Everyone was kind, caring and professional. We are extremely fortunate to have the NHS - of course it is not perfect - how could it be given the complexity of the services it has to offer from self-inflicted minor injuries like mine to transplants and cancer treatments? My experience was on a Sunday morning - there were plenty of staff on duty - Emergency Department is always open- Mr Hunt needs to remember that

Dear Myrtle

Thank you for posting such positive comments about your recent experience in A&E at East Surrey Hospital and  I hope your finger is now recovering from its unexpected trauma.

It is good to read that you felt so well looked after on the Sunday morning that you attended and I will ensure your comments are shared with colleagues in the department.

Regards

Ian
