"Total hip replacement"

About: Nuffield Health, Leeds Hospital

I had my operation at the end of May, done by a most competent surgeon, with a great anaesthetist.

I was quite nervous when I arrived and after being prepared for surgery with respect and dignity I sat and waited. My nurse checked quite regularly and reassured me I would be fine and was in safe hands, they were great.

The pre op team were brilliant and we even had a giggle before going into the operating theatre. I had a spinal block and the anaesthetist helped with my ipod so I couldn't hear anything of the surgery but by that time to be honest the pre meds were kicking in and I wasn't nervous or bothered with the music. I was in a light sleep which I enjoyed immensely and only became aware of what was happening as the op was over. I was taken to recovery where I was monitored and kept warm, plenty of attention and checking that everything was as it should be.

I was soon transferred back to my room to look forward to a cup of tea and the light meal I had ordered before my op.

It all arrived within a matter of minutes, a tray laid out with my chicken salad wraps and a teapot of tea with a bowl of fresh fruit salad, the tea was so welcome and was delicious as was the rest.

I had a comfortable night, helped by the painkillers that were offered at regular intervals throughout. The nursing was second to none, the meals were excellent and served with a smile by two lovely members of staff, they always took the time to have a few words and a laugh as they served the most gorgeous meals. The salads I had were exceptionally nice and fresh, the roast dinner was tasty and warm, I have no complaints at all about any aspect of my care whilst I was in the hospital.

The 2 physios I saw were very professional and encouraging and helped me lots, they were very good and were patient in showing me how to get out of bed and walk with first a frame and then crutches. I am so amazed at how pain free it all has been and I was on my feet the next morning after my op the previous evening! Quite amazing. I was in hospital for a total of 3 days and left feeling great. The hospital is exceptionally clean, all staff I came in contact with treated me with respect and compassion. The meals were wonderful.

The after care is great, I can't tell you just how helpful the physio has been at Nuffield health gym in Wakefield, they even gave me their mobile number in case of problems. I am now into week 10 after the op and all has healed as expected, I can walk much better and pain free for the most and no infections or adverse reactions to anything. I am still attending the gym weekly and improving more and getting back to full fitness.

This operation has changed my life and I cannot thank the consultant and their team enough for the skill, care and compassion I have been given. Do not think twice before using this hospital, I would do it all again if needed.
