"CT scan"

About: Southmead Hospital

After we eventually found the car park, got the shuttle bus to hospital, would of been quicker to walk, which we found on way back, you then had to swipe your barcode, first time didn't work, one of the volunteers said this system not very good! Was eventually told gate 19, (we are now 10mins late) take the lift, told member of staff l can't go in lifts need stairs, to which l was told by receptionist in gate 18, we dont have patients stairs!!

And can't u close your eyes, or joking said can we put bag over your head, l said its not l dont like them l have a medical condition where l cant use them, so member of staff took me and my husband to the staff stairs, eventually got to 19, (20 mins late) nurse was lovely, doc seemed abit rushed, they were running half hour late, everything was explained to me and l had my ct scan and nerve block, all ok, now the trip back down, the receptionist had to come with me to the top of the stairs, why? Leaving the desk, told it was security and door swipe, not once did they have to swipe, met my husband in costa, phoned him and said l was ready and stay put not to bother to come back up, then walked back to carpark, to number plate recognition which person explained by machine, no signs, couldn't wait to get out. The best bit a hospital with no patients stairs, completely threw the staff when l said l needed stairs:-)

Dear Anonymous – I am sorry your recent visit to Southmead was not a good experience and that you found the parking difficult. I am also sorry that you were misinformed about being able to access the different levels of the hospital by stairs, which is entirely possible. Since the bar code readers were upgraded earlier this year, we have received very few reports of people experiencing difficulties and so I am disappointed to hear that you had trouble scanning your appointment letter.

Patient parking will, from next year, be much closer to the main hospital, where the current large construction site is on the right of the main entrance. Once completed access to the main hospital will be direct from this new multi-story car park, meaning that it will be much more convenient. I hope when ths is completed you will find any visit a more pleasant experience.

Kind regards - Steve Sykes
