"Actually having the operation ..."

About: Kettering General Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

Actually having the operation i thought i was going in to have!

Anything else?

My knee problem started in Nov 08 when i ruptured a ligament during sport. After various visits to A&E and the clinic i was eventually offered a MRI scan which showed the rupture and slight cartlidge damage.I was booked into the treatment centre for the op to have both mended but only had the cartlidge done as the the Dr who done the op doesn't do ligaments! Had another appointment on Aug 27th 09 and was seen by a dr i have never seen before who explained about reconstructive surgery before asking my age, when i told him i was 45 he suggested physio,i again explained i had just had 3 months of it and that there is no way physio will help with a ruptured ligament and off he went to fetch another Dr,i heard them discussing my age and then they said i was to wait to see another consultant as he is a specialist in reconstruction. The MRI shown in February the problem so if the Dr i was under couldn't do the surgery i needed why wasn't i referred then? This has now been 9 months and according to appointments at K.G.H i am now looking at about November 09 before i even see him so it looks like i wont be having the surgery until next year,i cant imagine where the statistics that i am reading about it the local paper are coming from! 18 weeks max i have been waiting 36 weeks so far! Im thinking my age has something to do with it,wrote off at 45,i am in the process of officially complaining as i cant see any other option.
