I visited this hospital for a bone density today, August 12th. I am actually an East Lancashire/Pennine Trust Patient. However St Helen's hospital is the only hospital, nearest to my home. Where the X-Ray department has provision for patients who need hoisting from one piece of equipment to another.
I am paralysed from the upper chest down with very little movement in all for limbs.
I am only ever confident with my own carers hoisting me.
The team at St Helen's were brilliant. They showed knowledge and vast experience in using the equipment and talked me through every move. Any time I expressed concern. Everything was stopped and talked about until I was happy and we continued. I never once felt uneasy or in any danger.
The procedure itself was done professionally and with care. Every move was carefully thought out a agreed to by me before undertaken.
I can not praise the staff who looked after me enough. My Carer was redundant!
I must comment on the other aspects of the hospital . It was spotlessly clean, bright and welcoming. I had only just entered the building when a member of staff enquired could they be of assistance . I asked where the department was and they chirpily directed us in the right direction.
I would say my experience was better than most hospitals I visited and I have frequented many.
A Star + Goes to St Helen's Hospital . Especially their X-Ray department and Moving and Handling team. Nothing was a chore.
I will be recommending you to my friends.
