I cannot remember whether I called for the paramedics or whether my carers called, I was in such a state, nor do I know whether it was a 111 or 999 call.
What happened was that I suddenly had severe diarrhea and stomach cramps that it was all I could do to get myself to the toilet. My carers had arrived to prepare my lunch, the young girls were doing the best they could to help but my condition was very bad.
The paramedic arrived whilst I was still on the toilet and immediately took charge. It made me feel better just to have him around and let him take control. I think he asked the carers for help and they did as he directed them – I know that’s what I did! He was totally unfazed by the situation, sorted me out in the bathroom and got me back to the living room where he made me comfortable and then went through a list of questions to make sure he had all bases covered. He was absolutely amazing.
He stayed until he was satisfied that I was completely OK and did not need any further medical treatment.
I really appreciated the help he gave, really grateful for making everything so easy for me (and not painfully embarrassing) and for taking it all in his stride.
