I called 111 on a Sunday after a severe cold had settled on my chest and I was worried about coping at night. After taking the usual details they advised me a doctor would get in touch, which he did. I was further advised by the doctor to attend the Care 24 unit at Croydon Hospital where an appointment had been made for me to be seen by a GP.
I could not immediately find the Care 24 unit and someone from A&E took me round the corner and up the stairs to the unit. Much to my surprise there was an empty waiting room and I was seen immediately by the GP who prescribed antibiotics after examining my chest. She also let me know which chemists would be open for me to get my prescription filled out, this was very helpful.
I was impressed with the service provided and that this service obviously takes the pressure off A&E, which is where I would have gone if the 111 service had not advised me to go to Care 24.
