Being in the Ayrshire Hospice is like night and day compared to being in the hospital. When I heard the word ‘hospice’ before we came I thought ‘what’s this going to be like? ’, but it’s such a kind and caring environment. The nurses always have something up their sleeve if my husband needs pain relief; it’s not like in hospital where you were restricted to their regime. My husband has had a spa bath every single day since he’s been here, which really makes a difference to his pain. He has even put on weight, he’s enjoying the food so much, whereas before food didn’t appeal to him.
We’re from Arran, so when I was told that the hospice could help me with accommodation, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be put up in a beautiful home! Having access to ‘the wee house’ in the hospice grounds is a Godsend, it’s so peaceful, and heaven to be able to make a cuppa and watch TV when I like. It gives me space to get my head straight. I can be here anytime for my husband, and have been able to bring him to the wee house in his wheelchair to have afternoon tea. It has made such a difference to us. I would have no qualms about saying to anybody else to come to the hospice; it’s a very caring place.
"Never in my wildest dreams…."
