My daughter broke her arm in 2 places on 27th MAy 2015.the triage nurse and first doctor both looked at the arm and advised us it wasn't broken but would xray anyway..xray showed severe break that would need to be operated on.we were in shock..we waited in children's a&e for hours waiting for consultant and to be transferred to ward..this was all fine and late evening my daughter was in a bed for the night.operation was scheduled for 28th may and this went OK but I was traumatized when the docs tried to put my 10yr old daughter to sleep..the docs could not find a vein for the canular and after trying her hand and in her elbow they pulled out the mask and proceeded to use gas to put her to sleep..they did not warn me that she would start to cry and writhe about and I was very upset..if they had explained to me I could've prepared both of us as this left me very distressed and in tears for the duration of the op..the op itself to insert wire and set the brk went well and she was back on the ward and looking forward to going home..on our first visit back to the ortho outpatients on 9th june we were told by the doctor that the hand had been set incorrectly and if this wasn't rectified asap my daughter wouldn't have any supination..we were taken to the casting room and the tried to reset in a hand flat position which caused my daughter incredible pain.the next visit 28th june we saw our consultant and they adv that the arm wasn't healing as it should but would my daughter be OK without a cast..I was in shock and asked that as she was at school if they could agree to a cast..the consultant was rude,at one point when I asked if the wound from the op that was bloody and covered in cast matter be cleaned they pointed to the sink and told me if I want it done to do it myself..I was shocked and cleaned my daughters wounded broken arm with rough hand towels and water from the sink in the room.the arm was cast and we were sent away again..on our last appt 4th Aug we saw another doctor who advised us that the xray was showing that the arm right and the bones looked fused where they shouldnt be and there was a problem with supination. The doctor went off to speak to the consultant who sent them to speak to 2 other docs who did not know what to do..they are now deciding whether my 10yr old daughter will need physio another op or to take consolation in the fact that she is only young. we are very scared as to what to expect as yet another appt with another doctor on 13th Aug...its been 11 weeks in plaster and from 28th may until 28th June a full shoulder to finger cast and then the forearm covered in cast from 28th june-4th Aug..my daughter cannot lay her hand flat and we are all dreading the news that this can only be fixed by another operation ..this is not our fault but the incompetence of the person that set the arm in the first place 11wks ago.my daughter has been told to keep tubi grip on all day everyday until appt and she's terrified of what may come next for her as are we.
