I had an appointment in breast surgery on Friday morning. My doctor had referred me because I had pain in breast etc but the referral hadn`t gone through I discovered a week and a half after it should have. I discovered this when I phoned to see what was happening. Anyway a lovely receptionist(?) organised everything and arranged an appointment for three days later. They were very kind and helpful when I was quite upset. I had to have a breast examination with the consultant but I get very distressed about these sorts of examinations, and they were very patient and nice, as was the nurse. I then had to go to have a mammogram. Ditto my nervousness and anxiety, I do try to be calm, and being in my early 60`s you`d think I`d be used to it - but no! Anyway the radiographer told me to sit down gave me some water, stressed that I was `in charge` and we`d do it at my pace. They chatted to me and brought in the person who`d checked me in for the mammogram, who was equally nice and kind and chatted to me. We got through it! I had to go back to wait to see the consultant but I didn`t realise I had to check back in at the desk, but fortunately after a couple of minutes a nurse/receptionist came along and I realised I should have done this, but they said they recognised me and guessed I was waiting to see consultant again. They went off to check me in after telling me I had time to get a coffee if I wanted and also told me how many patients in front of me. I`ve never had that kind of help and information and support in a hospital ever before! I saw the consultant and thankfully I don`t have a breast problem. Will you please pass on my thanks to these people. All of the people I had dealings with were absolutely fantastic, and I apologise for being so silly and anxious. These staff deserve a commendation from the hospital because I will recommend Queen Mary`s for staff care very loudly now. It was yesterday, the morning of 7th August in Breast Surgery.
"Excellent care"
