"I was admitted to Leciester General ..."

About: Leicester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted to Leciester General Hospital ward 23 following a transfer from Leicester Royal A&E for abdominal pain (Appendix) on Friday 24/07/2009. I was treated very well by nurses and doctors on arrival and soon after surgery they were pleasent and very caring and treated me with diginity and respect.

What could be improved

Staff attitude and training, food, cleanliness.

Anything else?

The problems started the Saturday evening 25/072009 at change of shift the nurse who was looking after me was & asked if I wanted to freshen up I stated that I did (as I had been taken in as an emergancy I had very little with me and asked for a towel which I was given) I had a hospital gown on which was open at the back, I was attached to a drip and also had a catheter fitted, the ward is a mixed ward &the nurse made no effort to assist me in covering my exposed back and bottom, when I asked for assistance she just tuted and found my shawl which I could place around me. Later that eveing the same nurse did something to the drip that I was connected to I noticed that my right hand started to swell up where the drip was attached & the solution from the drip started squart out of the back of my hand the drip came out of my hand & started to soak the sheets on the bed and my gown, I called for help and the nurse was very curt and asked why I had taken the drip out when I said I hadn't and that she had done somthing to the drip that had caused this she said nothing she got a towel and pressed it on my had as a mixture of blood & the drip solution was pouring from the open wound on my hand, when I said I was not happy about what had happened she brushed it aside trying to make a joke of it & said it was bruising of the tissue from the needle, a doctor came to fit another drip into the back of my left hand & when I shoed him my hand I asked if it was caused by the fluid he said it was, the doctor was unsuccesfull at fitting another drip.

I was tranfered to ward 26 that Saturday evening on Monday 27th I went for a stroll to a small garden & to my horror noticed a pile of human faeces, I alerted a member of staff who stated she would report this to estates several hours later I went to the garden again & it was still there, I told a nurse on ward 26 the follwing day & she said she would leave a mesaage with the estate office. As of 29/07/2009 it was still there.
