We took our 5 week old son, who had been diagnosed just over a week ago with meningitis, to paediatrics to have a new cannula put in & to be given antibiotics. The nurse who visits us at home called ahead so we'd be seen right away as there was a 2 hour window in which he needed to be given the antibiotics. We arrived at 11am & went to Ward 3 originally. Although there was a nurse on Ward 3 who could administer the antibiotics we were told to go to paediatrics because he will be seen quicker as they were expecting us. The antibiotics weren't given to our son until 13:30 so well over the timescale he was meant to be given it within. Needless to say we weren't happy & this is not the first time this hospital has let us down. My wife & I were on the labour ward for 6 days during her pregnancy & during that time she was given the wrong food (different to that ordered) 3 times which meant her carb counting calculations for her insulin dose were out. On the other 3 times she was forgotten & received no food at all. As a type 1 diabetic it is critical she eats at regular times so this caused big problems with her levels which were already hard enough to control due to the pregnancy. Also, she was meant to have follow up consultations/meetings after pregnancy which never happened & she later that week had a severe hypo & was rushed to A&E where they weren't particularly helpful either. On top of all this we have paid around £95 for parking during this time!
