"an almost perfect team in great facilities"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I have been fortunate enough to be have around 12 surgeries in the last 18months which have pretty much been fantastic. As a lot was not known by the Drs they were happy to ask my advice from previous surgeries and opinions on each treatment option. That said following my last surgery I had to force my way out of the recovery area as there was latex in the room and as I have a severe allergy I could feel it effecting me. I tried to explain but was just restrained and blocked by staff who despite me saying not to touch my back as I had bad kidney pain kept touching my back. When I calmed down and was aloud to sit in the nurses office they said there was no latex in that room. That's utter rubbish a) I guarantee half the staff had latex somewhere in there clothing (socks etc mostly have latex in) and b) the general caps all surgical staff and patients wear (except in latex free surgery) have latex in thus other patients and staff in the recovery room did have latex on them. Its fine belittling my concerns when it doesn't effect them but after going into anaphylactic shock curtosy of latex multiple times in the past I do think its important they take it seriously. Other than that though ward 204 and 205 were amazing. Two particular nurses were exceptional as were two of the doctors couldn't hope for better care generally.

Many thanks for your comments regarding your surgery and also Ward 204 and 205. Unfortunately without more details we are unable to look into the matter of your latex allergy and latex being present in a recovery area. However, if you wished us to investigate and respond more thoroughly, then please consider contacting our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 7837691 or via email on dhft.contactpals@nhs.net who would be able to help you in this respect. We were very pleased to hear about your feedback relating to Ward 204 and 205 and will certainly share your kind comments with the staff in these areas. Many thanks once again for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and in the meantime, may we take the opportunity to wish you best wishes for the future. Kind regards from the Patient Experience Team for Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
