"Maternity Day Assessment, Triage and Midwife Team"

About: Watford General Hospital

Pregnant with 1st baby and having a horrendous experience with midwife team. 1st trimr all went smoothly until i met my midwife in 12th week. They made me feel like i was a complete inconveninence and all they are there for is to fill in forms - they have no time to listen, talks over the top of me and lo-behold you don't have a pee sample ready - am advised that midwife apps are scheduled to 15mins only (since found out they allow between 15-30mins). Took this appointment as a sign of things to come and thought must do pee sample in advance. Since that app i have had a few symptoms which NHS advice is to 'phone midwife' - well Watford midwife team certainly aren't interested... I had a pre-eclampsia scare at work so advised by Watford midwives to go immediately to closest A&E which is University College Hospital. Was looked after superbly by UCH team in their clean and new facilities - really high level of care and couldnt have been made to feel more important and cared for. No other preeclampsia signs found but blood results suggested i should return to my usual Watford MDAU for a follow up blood test. Went to the grubby MDAU and flocked upon by 3 student midwives who grabbed my notes from me each taking a different page and who then disappeared with my pages in hand to see to another lady arriving on the unit - left me feeling very concerned about their disregard for my notes and them being lost. Thought 'wow this is an eye opener - need to keep an eye on those notes'. Blood test taken in the waiting room underneath a dusty old house plant above it's muddy planter - was concerned about the hygiene but thought this is just a blood test - it will be OK. On phoning for the results i was giving the wrong persons urine sample results and told my bloods were fine - no further action req'd. I questioned the result given and found the ALT levels were higher than the last two tests so asked to speak to a doctor and this time advised to return for a further blood test in a week. Blood test done again in waiting room under same unhygienic conditions. Next suffer fainting episodes - phoned MDAU and not listened too again - talked over - get snotty on the phone in order to be heard - told to phone triage - phone triage, told to book app with GP. Book appwith GP who actually listens. Bloods from that app suggest low iron levels so prescribed iron tablets. Next is 24wk midwife app with same midwife and told off again - accused of wasting the GPs time with previous app for faint episodes. At this point I blow up and remind them that I was following advice of midwife team they are part of. I complain about how I have been treated by the staff at MDAU and they inform me of complaints process and that i don;t have to have baby with them i can opt to change hospitals. They then decide to be nice and says i should give Watford another chance. I leave wondering what on earth is the midwifes role in this process aside from filling in forms. Feel v let down.
