"Our little 11 month old son was ..."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

(as the patient),

What I liked

Our little 11 month old son was suffering from shortness of breath and was struggling to breath properly. A quick evening visit to the GP turned into a trip in an ambulance and a visit to the emergency department. Right from the outset the treatment we received was fantastic. Both the GP and the paramedics made me totally aware of what was happening and when. A handover was made at the hospital where the emergency department staff treated us with dignity and respect. At no time did I feel in any way unsure about what was happening, when and why.

After some emergency department treatment my son was transferred to the children’s assessment unit. Upon arrival we were shown where our son would be sleeping, my wife, who would be staying in the hospital that evening with our son, was provided with some food and drink as well as a folding bed to sleep in. This all happened within 5-10 minutes.

I called in to the ward on several occasions during the time my son was there. At no time did I feel this was a bother and the staff were always happy to answer any questions I had.

The following morning it was quite apparent that our son was feeling significantly better. The nurse looking after our son knew I was coming to visit at 9am that morning so she specifically requested that the consult on ward rounds that day came to see our son first. He was given the all clear and I was able to take him home at 9:15.

What could be improved
