I have recently undergone total knee replacement surgery and was treated with compassion, efficiency and an appropriate sense of humour at every stage in my treatment. From the person who handled my reception, the clear information from the surgeon and the anaesthetist, the team in the theatre, recovery and the first night in the Sandbourne suite, everyone treated me with the utmost consideration and respect. On the second day, I was transferred to the Derwent, a total joy that would compete with many a quality hotel. Everyone I met performed their functions to the highest level. This included catering staff, cleaners, porters, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and particularly the delightful nurses who were there for my every need. Even my annoyance when I discovered that I needed to stay for a fifth day, was tolerated with consideration, and in truth I did not mind too much the extra stay. I was discharged with all the information I needed and am pleased to state that my recovery is proceeding at a better pace than I could have anticipated. I can honestly state that I entered full of apprehension, but emerged from an experience that will live with me for ever as a positive and joyful time. The surgeon has performed a remarkable improvement to my quality of life. I made some brief acquaintances, but memorable friends during my stay and I wish them all well in their caring for others fortunate enough to find themselves in their capable and caring hands. Thank you all.
