About: Manor Hospital

I was admitted to Walsall Manor Hospital after suffering bleeding from my backside, diarrhea, feeling extremely ill, bad cough, high temperature and ulcers in the throat and mouth. At no point was anything communicated to me about what tests were going to be performed and when. Staff would just turn up and do whatever checks they needed to do whenever they could be bothered. I had my own room and preferred to keep my door closed. numerous staff would leave the door wide open when leaving which meant I had to get up to close it. I was connected to an IV drip but no one told me I could still move to go to the toilet. I had to call a nurse to find this information out and they explained I had to unplug it from the wall to move. I was constantly disturbed during the night whilst trying to sleep with no warning about this happening. In the morning, someone had come into my room and left my door wide open yet again. The noise outside woke me up after the worst nights sleep I'd ever had. Hours later, someone finally came to check on my IV drip which had been empty for a while. They said they would take it off for me but then decided something else would be more important and disappeared never to be seen again whilst leaving my door wide open yet again. Hours went by before anyone came to take it out and then only to replace it with some medication. No one had said anything about my condition at this point and I was feeling very tired and depressed. I had someone come to see me who announced they were some sort of specialist who diagnosed me as having an inflamed bowel. Some answers finally I thought. Only for the gastrologist to come and say it wasn't that it was viral gastroenitis. They said I needed to have a flexible sigmoidoscopy to check there was nothing more serious causing my symptoms. I was discharged, much to my relief and told to wait for an appointment for the sigmoidoscopy and drink plenty of fluids. 3 weeks later, I still felt terrible, still had blood in my stool and diarrhea. I phoned the hospital to see when my sigmoidoscopy might be and after being passed around half the hospital, finally found out no one had booked it. I decided to contact the patient liaison team at the hospital. They contacted me and said they would look into it and contact me later that day. A week passed so I phoned again. They seemed surprised no one had contacted me and assured me they would contact the relevant people and call me later that day. They called to let me know they can't contact the relevant person but assured me they would contact me first thing the next day with some answers. I'm still waiting for this phone call. I'm appalled at the treatment I've received and to this day, I still feel terrible suffering with bad diarrhea complete with blood, feeling week and powerless and painful ulcers in my mouth and throat. I have been unable to work during this period and being as I was just about to start a new job, I'm not earning any money. NHS at it's worst!
