Whilst visiting a patient in the AMU area, I made a number of observations. Firstly I would like to point out that the medical staff were doing the best they could in a difficult area. My observations were due to the cleanliness of the whole area. The cleaning staff seemed to not pay attention to detail when cleaning around beds, understandably they would not know what the patient was admitted with and would keep their distance but patient care should start with a clean ward. The toilet did not seem to get a lot of attention. At home you would take time and care to make sure the bathroom was clean and tidy. There it seemed once a day a quick lick with a mop was sufficient. As this is a 24hour ward you would expect movement during the small hours but once again care should be taken by staff not to disturb sleeping patients. Some porters were quiet some were not.
