"Superior staff let down by poor support and..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

Having taken my parents in and out of this hospital for years, I can only ever offer my highest praise for the front line staff - the paramedics and the nurses across the board. All work tirelessly and have time and gone out of their way to help us with everything within their powers. A shame then, that this is the filthiest hospital I've ever seen seen. The toilets are usually broken and filled with excrement or blood, neither of which any cleaning service appears to be able to remedy. The in-ward cleaners are miserable and frequently hostile, often using the same dirty rag on the walls and floors and cleaning isolation rooms with graywater. The building is poorly designed, frequently cold and with few places to take rest or use facilities. Every visit that required surgical procedures ended with additional isolation for MRSA in a room overlooking a graveyard. The building and the facilities are nasty, there's no other way to put it. The staff could easily make it one of the shining stars in the embattled NHS but the outsourced nurses and cleaning services make it one of the worst.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are working very hard to provide the highest standard of care possible and it is a pleasure to hear such positive feedback about our nursing team. This will be shared with the ED team and will be greatly appreciated. I would also like to apologise for the lack of standards with regards to the cleanliness of our hospital, that you felt the facilities within the hospital were inadequate once again I thank you for your feedback and would like to assure that we do take matters of cleanliness seriously and I will be passing your comment onto ISS so that we can learn from this with the aim of improving the standard of cleanliness within the hospital for patients and visitors. If you would like your concerns investigated further and receive a formal response please contact the Patient Advice & Liaison service (PALS) team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 0208 836 4592.
