As a visitor to one of the patients, I was disgusted by the attitude of some of the staff on Jade ward. There is a total lack of empathy or care for the patients, they are not treated with any respect, they are rude to the patients and any disturbance signals the response team to be called in and rather than trying to talk to the patients they just go in heavy handed. There is absolutely nothing to do on the ward and even though there is a list of daily activities on the wall, none of these activities have ever taken place in the 2 months that I have been visiting. There has also been no group therapy or one to one therapy. This lack of anything to do is obviously going to cause boredom and frustration for the patients and, apart from a small handful of them, the staff seem to do their best to wind the patients up and provoke them, this is clearly not going to help with recovery. You clearly have an issue with being under staffed but surely you should make it a priority to employ staff that actually care about the people they are supposed to be taking care of rather than people who are only interested in receiving a pay check. People are supposed to go into hospital to receive treatment to recover but this is not happening on Jade ward. You need to seriously review the staffing levels, the quality of staff and the lack of therapy and activities. I am disgusted by what I have seen and would not recommend this hospital to anyone.
