"Hey Grove Ward Wednesday 28th August"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I woke up on Hey Grove Ward I was not managing to eat or drink I had a lovely nurse who did her best to make me comfortable discover my symptoms and allay my fears, in fact I felt quite spoilt but that came to an end when she left for the weekend. Friday 31st August the nurses audibly complained in the communal area of the ward about the extreme foul smell of my faeces and blood loss so one of them has decided on their own course of treatment and has not replaced my drip, they have changed my method of medication. I asked them who authorised the changes they started to tell me what 'they' thought and the main gist of it was I couldn't go home on a drip and therefore wouldn't be able to have intravenous medication so they had changed things to medication I could have at home. I told them I haven't eaten since Tuesday or kept down any fluids, I was in severe pain and still suffering severe diarrhoea and blood loss the Drs dont know whats wrong and said I wouldn't be going home until they knew what was wrong and could treat it. The Dr arrives they are not doing a ct scan, but I am to remain in hospital My daughter insists on a scan or xray with barium meal. The Registrar is adament a scan won't give anymore information than had already been ascertained from the xray. We all know an xray doesn't show soft tissue we ask them to tell us what they knew and how they were going to treat it. Well there's tenderness in the abdomen the bloods show no infection no inflammation and no blood loss we see there's blood loss but we don't know what is causing it or where its coming from. So we cant prescribe a treatment. My daughter continues to insist that a ct scan is needed and asks about the complaints procedure. We meet with the ward sister and the Registrar a scan is agreed The scan shows my whole colon is inflamed enter the Consultant You have colitis we don't know what type of colitis you will need to be seen by gastroenterology Enter another doctor I am prescribing some steroids for you, someone from gastroenterology will come see you and take it from there Enter gastroenterologist I am arranging a colonoscopy, you will need to spend the weekend on a steroid drip the results of the colonoscopy should be back by Monday we will know if you need mire steroids and which course of treatment will be best then we can move you onto oral medication and get you home. I was taken to endoscopy and without any medication under went a colinscopy during which biopsies were taken The doctor is very proud of me
