"Visit to A and E Aug 1 2015"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

I went to A/E for a UTI with a suspected blockage of urine production based on previous experience of this problem. After registration I was seen almost immediately by a nurse and assessed. The consultant also appeared and was quite comforting and chatty. At that stage it was apparent that although potentially having a serious problem.I was not in immediate danger. I then waited about 40-60 min to be called to see a doctor. The doctor questioned in detail about the history of my condition which had also done by my GP and I reported that they had already prescribed an antibiotic but advised me to go to A/E if I showed signs of complete blockage (which I had had for several hours). During this process, for the first time that morning, I managed to produce a significant volume of urine and was pleased to realise the GP treatment had begun to work. Some other blood tests were then done and I was then discharged with the advice to come back if I became blocked because there could be a danger to the kidneys in some circumstances. I was very pleased with all aspects of my treatment and felt that I had been spared an admission by the professional judgement of the Doctor and the NHS costs which I think all patients are becoming increasinly aware of.
