"Kind, caring and respectful treatment"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

I was referred to the ENT department of the hospital by my GP on 29th July with Cellulitits on the right side of my face. . From the moment I arrived at A & E, I was treated with kindness and respect. I was admitted to the extra capacity part of the Acute Medical Unit (F Bay) and spent two nights there. Every single person I came in contact with at the hospital was kind, friendly and very caring. Everything I was told would happen did happen - my GP spoke to the consultant in ENT who was expecting me when I arrived. The consultant was professional but friendly and clearly explained what my treatment would be. When they left me I was looked after by two nurses, who were both lovely to me. Once on the ward, I was quickly made to feel at ease by the nurse there and the Health Care Assistant. During my stay all the staff including a HCA were wonderful. I liked that they all introduced themselves and first names were always used. When they were giving me my IV medication or doing obs they always used my first name. This informal but still professional approach really helped me feel involved in my treatment and relaxed in unfamiliar surroundings. I would like to stress again that all staff were friendly, kind and caring. The three doctors I met from ENT explained my treatment and condition clearly and I felt very confident in their care. The porters, catering staff and cleaners all do an amazing job in good humour - many of them brighten up an otherwise boring day. This could have been a very stressful time, the last thing I expected when I went to see my GP was to have to go to hospital. However, because of the way I was treated, I felt comfortable and as relaxed as one can in hospital I would imagine. Thank you very much everyone.
