"Obstetrics - Bad experience left me feeling..."

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I was left in an extremely distressed state after feeling like I was being interrogated by a Consultant and a Dr who both told me that my baby would either die at birth or be brain damaged so I would have to have to consent to a C Section (even thought they could not provide any reasoning for this just that I was small and the baby may be large at full term although there is no evidence of this yet and my midwife is very happy with the size of the baby). I had to ask about results of blood tests and the scan that were not explained at all (I was told I needed iron tablets but i was already taking them and the consultant had not even looked at my notes) and when I questioned why they were saying my baby would die in labour if it was normal size, I was told that the Consultant has other patients to see and could not carry on this appointment. As I was so distressed i called my midwife who advised me to call the supervisor of midwives (as it states in the back of your Pregnancy Notes) to discuss this. I called the number that was the main Reception for Derby Royal, spoke to an operator who did not know what a supervisor of midwifes was so they put me through to the Labour ward, I spoke the Labour Ward who wanted to know if I was a Midwife, when I said no, they asked “why do you want to speak to a supervisor then” I said because it says I can in my pregnancy notes. I was left on hold for 10 minutes and then told someone would phone me back. No-one did. I'm left feeling like I have no support from the Hospital or given any information to allow me to understand my care and i cannot even access a Supervisor Midwife even though this is what has been advised and is written in your pregnancy information. The way I have been made to feel has left me thinking I have to go though this pregnancy alone, I was intimidated and felt that I needed to consent to what ever the Consultant said just to stop them pressurising me. This department has let down what is otherwise an amazing hospital.
