"Absolutely shocking!"

About: Barnsley Hospital

Arrived on the ward at 7:30 as arranged, only to be told there were no beds and me and roughly 15 other patients had to sit in a waiting room until they found space for us all. At approximately 9:30 we were all shuffled off to different wards. I went down to surgery at half 10 to have a basic anthroscopy of the knee. I came back to the ward at half 12 and was given lunch. I had bandages covering most if my leg. As the day went on I had several different nurses cone and take obs. I had an iv in my arm when I woke up. This iv had finished by half 3 and I requested to have it taken out. It wasn't u til 6:15 a different nurse to the 3 I had already asked offered to take my iv out and new nothing about me requesting it taken out. At 6 I was told to contact my transport home after telling the lead nurse it would take half an hour for them to arrive. We left the hospital at 7 o clock after never meeting my surgeon or any doctor and nothe knowing what treatment had been done to the torn cartilage in my knee. The discharge was abysmal. I was given an envelope with spare dressings and painkillers and that was it. I has requested a sick note for work for the 2 weeks they had told me it would take to recover from the operation only to be told the doctor had forgotten and had left the ward and I could either wait on the ward for them to return at an unknown time or go to my doctors the next day to get one. It was not until I visited my physio 4 weeks after my appointment today that they said when discussing the treatment I was going to have from them that instead or trimming away the tear like they told me they were going to that they had cut a chunk of my cartilage away and that's why my recovery was taking longer than the 2 weeks I had previously been told. In my opinion this is shocking treatment of a patient. I do not doubt that having go to my doctors surgery the next day to collect my sick note when I was told to rest has made my recovery longer. I should have been told on the day exactly what was done to my knee.
