"Visit to Minor Injury - Horrible Experience"

About: Wycombe Hospital

Hi, I brought my son, Ismail to Minor Injury unit in Wycombe Hospital after his upper lip inner flesh got stuck between his teeth causing bleeding. I was told to wait for a significant amount of time although there were a handful of people in waiting. It turned out that the duty nurse hadn't shown up and the doctor in duty had to see walk in patients as well as appointment patients. This is around 1am 30/07/2015. It is appalling that NHS cant provide adequate cover to for a nurse to see a handful of patients? When we saw the doctor finally after a long wait, they tried to dislodge the flesh from the teeth using a few techniques. After failing in this endeavour, they suggested that the flesh be cut off completely. They suggested that this is a simple procedure and can be carried out in the Local surgery or in minor injury in high Wycombe. They suggested we contact either of the 2 in the morning as at 2 am in the morning they didn't want the child to go through further distress. In the morning, we contacted our surgery and they said they are not going to carry out this procedure and will not do it. Next, I contacted the Minor injuries department at high Wycombe again and the I was told by the receptionist (after consultation with the nurse) that even they wont be carrying out this procedure as they lack equipment. Why doesn't High Wycombe hospital have basic skill nurses, basic attendance backups and competent doctors who have basic knowledge about minor procedures and where these procedures can take place? I had asked the receptionist at the minor injury to get the doctor on duty to give me a call and advise me correctly before sending me and my son on yet another goose chase while his flesh is still stuck in his teeth. I haven't yet received a call back. It is 12:45 now. Thanks Nazim
