"Respite at Hillcrest gives my wife a break"

About: Hillcrest Residential Unit

(as a service user),

I go to Hillcrest for respite to give my wife a break. I had meningitis and now have brain damage. I've been a couple of times already this year, it's a good service.

The food is good

The staff don't pester you, you can do what you like as long as you don't go out the grounds. They also take you out on trips on the bus.

You get a room to yourself and there are plenty of showers and toilets. They don't let you have a shower alone but that's ok with me.

They have special nights like bingo, I don't go to these, it's not my thing. I've got a TV in my room and I prefer to watch that. I do like the bus trips though.

Hillcrest is alright, I don't think it could be better unless they could make it bigger.

The staff at our Hillcrest care are appreciative of your comments. It isn't easy at times to know when to offer help and when to allow people the time to relax and be on their own. From what you describe we seem to be getting this right for yourself.

I am pleased that you like the facilities: as you may be aware we have had a number of structural improvements over the last year including new toilet facilities in each unit and a total kitchen refurbishment.

I am also pleased to see that you have been able to take advantage of our planned outings, this I do know is a popular event enjoyed by a number of residents. I thank you for taking the time in letting us know your views about this service.
