"A and E waiting"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

Should never have been here. Only here because the gp could not get appropriate tests done or a same day appointment with surgeon. My mother in law is too ill to sit upright for hours. having taken a ticket and waited 20 minutes just to book in I was told there was nowhere for ill people to lie down. Here we wait. 1hour later. Not seen any one medical yet!

Please accept my apologies that you were sent to the Emergency Department for something that was not deemed to be an emergency. Our waiting times can be so much longer when referrals such as these are made. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Regards

Update posted by dottie (a relative)

I did not say she was not an emergency. I said she should have been sent directly to the appropriate department. None of that excuses the way she was treated once she got to A and E, Twenty minutes just to book in and nowhere for an 85 year old seriously ill woman to lie down for at least four hours is unacceptable and unnecessary. Using some of the United Nations Emergency field hospital supplies stored in this country could have been used in the car park. There were many other people in the same position. I left her in A and E nine hours after arriving because she was to spend the night there. Doctors were available but no space to examine her.
