About: New Cross Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have been a patient at NC for a number of years. The Gastroenterology Unit is second to none, the state of the art  Beynon Centre is first class as are all the nursing staff doctors and consultants. My case has been very difficult and challenging for them, but I have always been included in any desicion making.Everyone has been amazingly good to me and have seen me through some bad times with great compasion.I continue to receive wonderful care from them all and will always be endebted to them,I firmly beleive there are Angels walking amongst us!! The reason I wanted to write this is so others who are a little bit apprehensive about talking about Bowel movements and such can feel quite at ease as the staff make it very comfortable to discuss such matters and there is no need for embarassment.Congratulations to everyone involved with the day to day running of the Beynon Centre you do an amazing job .

What could be improved

When I have needed to go onto the ward I have noticed that continuety of care is not always available to the patients as when the hand overs take place, some staff coming on duty may not give the same level of care as others have.Even though one would expect all staff to be trained to the same level, some appear to be more efficient than others! We are still a long way off all Male and Female wards!! there are male/female Bays, however this is not the same as single sex wards. You can still see males sauntering along with open pyjamas, and urinating in toilets with the door open?? This would be distressing for some females.

Anything else?

I know some other departments may fall short of the mark,as I have had dealings with elderly parents at NC,but on the whole I feel  the people of the West Midlands are well served with a good overall hospital that is well placed to serve the community. We should count our blessings.
