What I liked

The nurses were very sympathetic and tried hard to care for the patients within their care uder difficult circumstances. Hereford Hospital on first viewing looks modern but this appears to be a facade hiding the old and decrepit wards behind the scenes

What could be improved

The length of time between entering A&E and being seen by appropriate staff. I definitely felt ignored on visiting the hospital twice in two days, and spending up to 8 hours before being seen by someone relevant. Indeed the first time, I left before being seen as I had waited so long.

The reluctance of management to recognise that Kenwater ward is a geriatric ward. When sent there I complained and was told it was a general ward. Someone is deluding themselves and it is not me.

Being told on entry to Kenwater Ward that it was so cold that nurses had to keep their coats on at night. Management response to this was to speak to staff, not to do anything about the temperature.

Refusal to consider my request to move to another ward or to allow me to exercise my options of transfer to another hospital

11 attempts to take blood by medical staff - all of which failed

Refusal to take notice of the tests my GP had asked for as he considered I had a blood infection. My blood counts when they finally told blood were abnormal, but medical staff did nothing, other than consider my rash associated with my admittance, to be a skin disorder.

On the basis of this I discharged myself again and would never willingly be admitted to HerefordGeneral again

Anything else?

Management response to my complaint which did not directly address the issues brought up. A list of apologies is not acceptable - a plan of actions to take on board what I had said would be more useful.
