"High levels of empathy"

About: Royal Orthopaedic Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I am a nurse, but am also disabled and have the support of a wonderful assistance dog. I recently was admitted to ROH for shoulder surgery, and was very apprehensive as I've had some rough experiences in another hospital (leading to my disability) ... the advanced nurse listened sympathetically and made arrangements to have me stay a few days rather than go right home. She also made arrangements to ensure my assistance dog was welcome. And, throughout my stay, my dog was welcome to stay with me, support me, aid my recovery... they understood how stressful it is for both sides of the assistance dog partnership to be separated. My dog was an active part of my recovery, and the staff could not be faulted as they showed high levels of empathy, compassion and kindness.

The one problem I did have was silliness were a new pharmacist checked my chart daily and they kept messing with my specialist pain relief, but "DrCharlie" fixed that... what a wonderful GP that woman will be.

I cannot name all the wonderful people who helped me, but I can say I would not hesitate to recommend the ROH to anyone... it is a safe place where the high level managers care.. in fact one of them approached my dog and me in the garden... and will do the right thing. If you are there and have a problem, ask to speak to one of the senior staff... they really do care. Mistakes happen, but the fabric of this organisation is sound.

Thanks for a good experience and for treating me as an individual... ward 12 and the private ward are safe places to recuperate.
