"Considerate and caring staff"

About: Southampton General Hospital

After an unfortunate fall involving barbed wire resulted in a facial injury I was referred to Southampton A &E by Lymington minor injuries unit. Somewhat indifferent receptionist but very pleasant, efficient nurse practitioner. An hour and a half wait seemed ok in my circumstances, could see those in front were being moved on at steady pace. Once in treatment area staff were helpful, explained the nature of the injury and the best way forward. There were a few waiting periods but my visit coincided with a serious emergency which needed referral to another hospital so I was aware that this had to take up staff time. Staff were good humoured and kind. Lead doctor took overview of my treatment, popped in to check up on stitches and gave me prognosis for healing. The Consultant was professional but also friendly and reassuring. Any delays were apologised for by staff nurse and the Consultant. There were a few things to discuss re my treatment and I was kept fully in the loop re any decisions, I felt confident to take the good advice offered. Like majority of people, eyes watered at cost of parking for a total of four hours at hospital so trust majority of money goes to hospital funds. I also overheard many examples of staff giving time to listen to patients who needed reassurance whilst clearly they are working under pressure and some difficulties. I left the dept feeling I had been well cared for.
