"Chemotherapy Treatment"

About: St Richard's Hospital

I have no complaints about my care. The staff were very professional, caring and kind. I would like to question whether patients need to have full time visitors with them when they are not in need of a carer. There were already five patients being treated in a bay and with two full time visitors it became overcrowded. Three patients and two visitors were seated on one side of the bay, including myself. This made me feel as if I was trapped in the corner and it was difficult to get out with the equipment to go to the toilet. It was also difficult for staff to reach electric switches etc. I would like to suggest that visitors are only allowed if there is room and if so for shorter periods, certainly not full time. These visitors hear everything that goes on including confidential information about patients' treatment and their names and dates of birth etc. and are not identifiable as are the other patients. There may well be a guidance for visitors document, which I have not seen but it would useful if this was on display in the ward. I was not feeling very well whilst attending this time and found it difficult to have any peace during the time of my treatment. Perhaps accompanied patents could be seated together so that patients on their own can have some quiet time.
