"Disgusting"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

My partner was referred to Shrewsbury Hospital from the doctor after suffering severe abdominal pain and had been vomiting constantly for 4 hours. He arrived at 1pm and was told to wait in the waiting room of the Surgical Assessment Unit 33. He continued to be sick another 6 or 7 times before being seen by the doctor at 3pm. The doctor only took blood samples and told him to return to the waiting room. He was sick again this time on his clothes. We went and asked at the desk what was going on and they just kept saying we had to wait. There was no offer of any water or somewhere to liedown? Finally we were taken to a bed at around 9:30pm after 8 hours! He was then told he was NBM so after no food or drink for 24 hours and constantly being sick we were getting agitated. After waiting another hour i went to find someone, and then eventually a nurse came round and then offered anti sickness! only 8 hours too late at this point! They went away and said we had to wait for the doctor. There was an elderly man in the bed opposite with his family. He was very ill and he had very bad dementure. His family were very worried about leaving him on his own. Once they left he was very unsettled, kept getting out of bed and wondering round not knowing where he was. We had to fetch the nurses 3 times in the space of half an hour! He asked to use the toilet so the nurse walked him there, but then told him to 'shout if he needs them!' i found this disgusting, he was left in the loo for about 25 minutes and they dd not come back. i went to find someone else and they said ok but it took them a while to come get him out of there! Finally the doctor arrived and said we would be taken to a ward upstairs where the service was a lot better. When i went to leave the hospital i went back through the surgical assessment unit to get out and found the elderly man by the front door about to walk outside!
