"Poor maternity care"

About: St Helier Hospital

The maternity care at St Helier's is very poor. There is inconsistent advice given by midwives and there are too many front line staff with a bad attitude. One example (of many): At the advice of a midwife I needed to bring forward an appointment. When I called the maternity appointment booking service at 11.47am on 21/07/15 I tried to explain the situation to the person on the other end of the phone. Their response was that they did not understand what I was saying. I explained again and their response was, again, that they did not understand what I was saying. They refused to change the appointment and when I suggested they should give the phone to someone else they also refused. I asked what their name was and they refused to tell me and advised me that they were putting the phone down on me. Unbelievable but actually not surprising. This is the standard of behaviour the staff seem to work to in this department.

We're really concerned to hear that this is your opinion of our Maternity services and we would like to look into this in more detail. Could we please ask you to get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison services (PALs) team via pals@esth.nhs.uk or on 020 8296 2508 to help us look into this matter further?
