"I stayed in with my son fot 2 ..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

I stayed in with my son fot 2 nights. His 20th stay over in 3 years! The pediatric nurses and staff were excellent with both of us.

What could be improved

Car parking.

Reduced fees for parents staying in with children.

Food

Noise made by staff during the night. Talking loudly, noise off heeled shoes as staff walked around. Parents should be allowed a breakfast if staying overnight with children.

Anything else?

Biggest issue is parking. Appalling. If you have an appointment after 10am you can't get parked or have to drive around continually hoping someone will come out. As a regular visitor this is fustrating!

Thank you for your kind comments. We will pass them on to the paediatric nurses. Matron will ensure that all staff are aware of reducing noise to a minimum during the night shifts and the need to wear non-heeled shoes, particularly on night duty.

We appreciate that parking can be a concern at times for our patients and visitors and we advise that patients travelling to appointments in cars should leave plenty of time to park. As part of the original hospital planning, we were restricted on the number of car parking spaces. However, we now have approval to build a new 691-space multi-storey staff car park which, when complete, will create more spaces in the visitor car park and ease parking problems.

Frequent visitors can make use of a value card scheme, which offers seven days unlimited car parking for a one off payment. We also offer concessionary parking to patients who attend regular oncology and renal clinics for on-going treatment, and to parents of babies and children up to the age of 16 who are inpatients over an extended period.

We are sorry you were not completely satisfied with the food you received during your hospital stay. We make every effort to offer our patients a variety of foods that are nutritionally balanced and appetizing. Our menus are continually reviewed by the catering department and dieticians to provide the best food possible to our patients. Breakfast is available to parents from the on-site restaurant which is open at all times. In addition hot and cold drinks are available within the parents’ room on the ward.
