"Pinewood Ward are above and beyond amazing."

About: Hillingdon Hospital

The past two months my grandmother was being treated in Pinewood Ward at Hillingdon Hospital. It has been the hardest two months for her, our family and myself. She's 90 years old and when she was admitted we were worried they might have dismissed her due to her age, but this was not the case. Pinewood did every test and scan on her and didn't give up on her. We had two nights where we were preparing ourselves for the worst. On the 5th July 2015, they gave her one last lot of an antibiotic. I'm there praying and hoping we would see a difference in her compared to all the other antibiotics that she was on. On the 6th July i went to the hospital in the morning, expecting to see her fast asleep. ( She had been asleep for 3 weeks solid prior to this, wasn't eating nor talking) and she opened her eyes when she heard my voice and said " Hello Love". Those were the first words i had heard her say in 21 days and it's safe to say the first thing i did was cry. I was never expecting to see her blue eyes again nor hear her lovely voice. I sat there telling her how the day before i came in and played all her favourite songs, she then asked me which ones. I told her and i started singing one and she joined in with me. It's now 2 and half weeks on and she is eating and drinking, smiling and laughing. If it wasn't for the love, support and a not giving up attitude from all the nurses and doctors in Pinewood Ward, my nan would not be here with us today. They save her life. They never gave up and regardless of how busy they were, they always had massive smiles on their faces. If it wasn't for the team, my family and i would have stayed every night next to her bedside to worried to go home and rest. They gave us the reassurance you need when someone you love is seriously ill. They had the upmost respect for my grandmother. They treated her with respect, loyalty and made sure she had her dignity. They are the best doctor and nurses i have ever come across and if i was to ever go into Hillingdon unwell and one of them were assigned to me, I know I would be in good hands. The ward was always spotless, they always had time to answer any questions we had and were always professional 100%. Hand on my heart, there are no words to describe how grateful i am for everything they did for us. I will forever be grateful to every single one of them. When my nan left the ward to go to a new one, it was quite emotional. I hugged all of them and then started crying because they have had such a big impact on my family and myself these past 2 months. So, if you ever get a chance to read this, thank you so much for going above and beyond for my Nan. You and the team are truly amazing and you don't get the praise you all deserve. I will never forget what you have all done and you will remain close to my heart for a very, very long time.

Dear Alexandra,

We would like to say thank you to you for taking the time to write such a heartfelt review about your nan’s care whilst she was an inpatient on Pinewood Ward. You describe the anguish and distress that you and your family went through when she was first admitted to the hospital and the positive impact of our teams loving and supportive attitude at this time.

You also explained that regardless of how busy the team were they always had smiles on their faces, treated your nan with great respect and dignity, were there to answer questions when needed and provided reassurance to you and your family. This is the very essence of compassionate care, and we are very proud of the team from Pinewood who have demonstrated their ongoing commitment to providing such great care to their patients.

The team from Pinewood always strive to provide the care that you have described in your review so I know that they will feel appreciative and humbled to see it recognised in this way. I will personally ensure that they all receive a copy of your review.

I do hope that your Nan continues to be in good health

Kindest Regards

Bev Hall, Deputy Director of Nursing and Patient Experience
