"Totally priceless"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as the patient),

Just wanted to let someone know of the incredible job the staff, the nurses in particular are doing in the day surgery at Hairmyers Hospital.

I had ankle surgery recently and from arriving until leaving that evening, the care I received was incredible.

My surgeon, Miss Miller, was patient, professional and polite.

Explaining every concern I had and putting me at ease......even though I was probably the umpteenth patient to be asking the same old questions and worries.

The nurses, Maria &Angela in particular, are without doubt the most compassionate, caring and professional people I've ever encountered.......not to mention very funny.

A real credit to the NHS, totally priceless to have such dedicated people looking after me.

I've never had surgery or anesthetic before and was beyond anxious, but these ladies where simply brilliant, and put me at ease when required and just seemed to know exactly how to look after me.

I know this level of care doesn't come by accident, or merely taught through training......it's down to people like miss miller, Maria and Angelas dedication to their career.

It doesn't appear to be just a job, it's more than that.

I was so impressed I felt compelled to let you know what an amazing job they are doing.

Please pass on my thanks and best wishes.

Kind regards

Dear Braes44,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. I’m so glad you had such a positive experience.

Like you, there are many people who are very anxious when they come into hospital, never mind when it is for a surgical procedure or operation and I hope you sharing your story will alleviate some of their anxieties.

It’s really important that you know and understand what is happening; and that you have confidence in the staff and the treatment and care you will receive. It’s really rewarding for staff to be recognised and thanked for their commitment and dedication, but it also inspires and motivates the rest of the team. It will be my pleasure to share your praise with Miss Miller, Maria, Angela and the rest of the Day Surgery Department.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Susan
