"The nursing staff did everything ..."

About: Heartlands Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The nursing staff did everything they possibly could for my relative despite obviously beingoverstretched.

What could be improved

The cleanliness of the hospital was poor, it was frightening to see the state of the public toilets. The NHS provide alcohol gels when you enter the hospital and wards however you see very few people using it and they aren't challenged by staff. However when the cleaning staff had been round they did a fantastic job. I can only imagine like every other public department the state of the hospital is due to a severe lack of under funding.

Anything else?

I would not like to be a patient at this hospital.

The hospital meets national guidelines on cleaning standards and there are constantly being reviewed. We also regularly perform hand cleaning audits and ask over 15 patients each month for their views on whether staff / visitors clean their hands. These results are monitored at both local and senior executive levels.
