"Waiting for results from GP"

About: Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

(as the patient),

My wife and I are undergoing investigation for sub fertility, part of which was a sperm test at the fertility clinic in Heavitree hospital. Successfully dropped off the sample at the clinic and waited 2 weeks (as instructed) before contacting GP for results.

First attempt was told that the GP had received a letter earlier that week but had yet to read it. Was advised to call back the following week. Second attempt resulted in a message being passed on to the GP and advised to call back the following day. When I called back as requested, I was told that my GP wasn't even in so couldn't possibly have read the results. I have been assured that another message would be passed on to the doctor.

Every person I have spoken to has been perfectly pleasant but no one seems to have any appreciation for the anxiety and frustration that is caused by knowing that the results have been delivered to the practice but that the doctor doesn't have the time to actually read it.

My wife has already been diagnosed with a potential issue but in order to be referred for treatment we both need to have our results.

It doesn't help when (a different doctor) struggles to find the correct paperwork (form and instructions) for the original test - exclaiming that they almost never have to order fertility tests. I know that the doctor didn't mean anything by it, but when you've been trying to get pregnant for nearly 2 years without success, it's not ideal to be reminded that the vast majority of people don't have the same problem.

Having said that, I find getting appointments here very easy - don't seem to have to wait days and days like I have at other GPs.
