Having previously had to leave a negative review after an outpatient appointment - I thought it only fair to write a much more positive review following my experiences over the last few weeks of Lister Hospital at A&E, being admitted to a ward and at then as a day patient at the Endoscopy unit. At each time and in every department the staff have been extremely professional, efficient, courteous, kind and compassionate. My first visit to A&E was following several conversations with the 111 service who strongly suggested I went to A&E when I refused having an ambulance pick me up. A nurse took me through urgently - the nurses and doctors immediately dealt with the sickness and pain I was experiencing in a calm and caring way - and I was able to leave a few hours earlier with my symptoms under control and medication to take home with me. A week later I was advised to go back to A&E by my GP and although I had a longer wait, once I saw a doctor I experienced the same high level of care from all the staff involved. I was to be admitted - however after a discussion with the consultant - who I felt listened to me as well as giving me information - I was allowed home that night, to come back for more tests the following morning. Again experiencing care from some different staff as wells those I recognised from the day before - all were friendly, caring and supportive. Following admission to a ward later that day I can honestly say that all the staff without exception - including auxiliary staff and cleaners were lovely. At times the nurses in particular were very busy, but I never felt rushed if I needed help with anything or explaining what needed to be done - they were the same with the other people in the ward too. A few days later I had an appointment at the Endoscopy unit to have Gallstones removed - again the staff could not have been more professional, kind and supportive before, throughout the procedure and afterwards. I almost didn't want to go home!!
