"A terrible experience"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

I had an absolute horrendous encounter with the A&E department at the RD&E. The triage nurse was blasé and uninterested. And after more than a 3 and a half hour wait to see a doctor, while I had crippling pains in my side, I was then asked about 3 questions, given a very poor excuse of an examination and basically told to go home. I was given no advice or medication and was told if it keeps up to see my GP. Such bad care and so disappointing. The doctor had no interest and offered an extremely poor excuse of a diagnosis. If I have to go back to A&E after going to my GP, I will be absolutely furious. I am extremely disappointed with the poor service I've received.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We would like to apologise for the experience you have had whilst in the Emergency Department, as this is not the standard of care we aspire to. We will be sharing your comments with the team to support their learning and improve the care of patients in the future. The Senior Nurse for this area would be happy to meet with you to discuss your comments in more depth if you felt this would be helpful. If you would like to do this, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01392 402093.
