I hobbled into reception Sunday morning with suspected broken toes (2), We waited in reception for about 15 mins just to be told they dont do xrays on the weekend and l can either go to Leighton hospital or come back Monday. I was kept just long enough to pay for parking. As l cannot drive with the injury, l either have to pay for taxi Monday or drive to Crewe 18 miles away and wait for hours in A&E for skeleton staff to see me. Come on NHS. People need decent treatment 7 days a week.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on NHS Choices. We are sorry that you were not happy with the service you received at the minor injuries unit at Northwich.

Unfortunately, there is limited demand for x-ray services at Northwich on a Sunday and we need to direct our services to meet demand. This means we ensure there is a fully operational 24 hour radiology service provided 7 days a week at Leighton hospital.

The reception staff at the minor injuries unit are not clinically trained and therefore would be unable to assess an injury to determine if imaging is required. This is determined once a patient has seen the Emergency Nurse Practitioner.

Clinical options are then offered to the patient dependent on the injury as to whether a return for x ray is required at VIN or the patient is advised to attend Leighton Hospital. The practitioners work hard within the parameters set and we apologise that this fell short of your expectations on this occasion.
