"Hardly anything is good about ..."

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Hardly anything is good about the in patient experience in this place. The design of the building is poor and there is little or no natural daylight for patients or the staff. It is extremely hot in the summer with no apparent air conditioning in the wards or departments. There is a lot of wasted space especially in the so called reception area where there are no directly employed receptionists. The nursing staff referred to the patients as numbers and never seemed to be aware of who was actually on the ward at any one time. They were noisy both day and night and many of them used their mobile phones when on duty. The smokers just walked off the ward to have a cigarette both during the day and at night. There were one or two exceptions to the overall poor quality of nursing staff many of whom were very junior and inexperienced.

I am pleased to report that the majority of the medical care was very good as was the phsiotherapy service. The food is abominable. The cleaning service is poor. Outside the main entrance is very dirty most of the time with litter including cigarette ends on the ground. The car parking is expensive and totally inadequate in terms of spaces available.

What could be improved

the Director of Nursing should address the above issues. Despite there being a uniform policy this was not adhered to with some staff still wearing a lot of jewellery and inappropriate footwear.

Anything else?

Care in athe ITU was very good but slowly went downhill thereafter.
