My wife was recently discharged from Treble Ward at Kent and Canterbury Hospital where, I have to say, the nurses were exceptional in their duties. However, the consultant discharged my wife from this ward directly to home; their reasons may have been explained to my wife, but as she had suffered an extremely serious brain injury, she would not have been able to fully understand the consultant’s future treatment plan, which actually seems to be: discharge this patient and forget. We have since found out that Lynn should really have spent some time in the Rehabilitation Ward and it has even been suggested that due to her on going problems, she should be re-admitted (admitted) to this ward. We would have liked to have discussed these issues and indeed on-going treatment and prognosis with the consultant, but as they failed to make a follow-up appointment we are unable to do this. On that point, we have phoned their secretary, who did say that they would contact the consultant and they would let us know by the end of the week what was happening… That was three weeks ago. Despite three further messages left on their answer phone we are still waiting… My wife has been let down by this consultant.
