"Q.E women's is a joke"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital

My partner came in last night at 2100 due to sickness while pregnant now she was not seen until 0100 witch I thought okay there is one night doctor now I am on the following day and the treatment was stopped at 11am there for she has been waiting on the outcome to see a doctor it has been over 5 hours and still have not been seen I asked a midwife and she said there is only 1 doctor now I think this is very unexceptionable I am outraged the fact a very busy main city hospital thinks this is right, there should be more than one doctor to a ward!

Thank you for taking the time to feedback. I am very sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience of our service. It is not our intention to delay women any longer than is necessary. We have unpredictable peaks and troughs with service requirements, and without knowing more of your situation, I can only imagine that the time you were here was during a time when our staff were particularly stretched. I will be feeding this information to our Triage and Ward 1 teams to investigate why there may have only been one doctor on at 11am on a Thursday. If you would like to be contacted directly regarding this particular situation, please provide details of your partner's name and hospital number. I will then ensure the appropriate Matron will review her care and circumstances and can give you a fuller picture of what we have on offer and why may have fallen short of your expectations on this occasion. For your information, we also offer a debrief service which will enable you and your partner to speak to a senior midwife to discuss your concerns. Please let us know if you wish to use this service or to pursue a further investigation into this situation. Our PALS number is 0121 627 2747 or email us directly on pals@bwnft.nhs.uk. Thank you, Amy Maclean, Head of Patient Experience
