"Appointment with Consultant"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

I am unable to review the a move as I have yet to visit the Hospital as you will see from the details below. Approximately 5/6 weeks ago my GP made an appointment at the Walton Hospital for me to see a Consultant and I was diagnosed with cancer Several scans and blood test were arranged and I was to see the Consultant again, this time at the Royal Liverpool on the 8thJuly after these had been completed.Unfortunately due to the side effects of my medication the scans had to be postponed. We made contact with the Consultant's secretary and agreed a new appointment with them, again at the Royal on the 15th July. My wife telephoned their secretary around lunch time on the15th.just to see which department we needed to attend and was in formed that neither the Consultant or their Registrar were available and because they only attended the Hospital on a Wednesday, we would have to waite a further week to see them. We had received correspondance and had we not telephoned we would have attend the clinic. My daughter, wanting to be present for the results, had driven all the way from Birmingham to take me to the Hospital, a wasted trip of nearly 200 miles. Whilst I have been very impressed with the standard of care at both the Walton & Aintree Hospitals I am extremely disappointed at the service we have so far received from the Royal, apart from the inconvenience and expense to my daughter, the delay as brought considerable stress to my family. I fully understand that mistakes can happen but no communication of any type was instigated by the Hospital either a l better or a phone call would have prevented this from happeneing
