"Wonderful staff"

About: West Suffolk Hospital

We recently spent three days on Rainbow Ward when my daughter was admitted with a massive asthma attack(24-26 May 2015). Despite it being a very scary time for both of us, we were treated with care, compassion and respect by all the staff. My daughter (aged 11) was involved in her own care with the staff working calmly to stabilise and reassure her, then gently work with us to take over management of her ongoing treatment. The nurses on the night shifts (24th & 25th May) were particularly excellent, especially when my daughter was struggling to stabilise. The support staff were also lovely, making sure my daughter was well fed (although the food was quite dry when it got to us from the storage - the pizza in particular was somewhat biscuit like). It was a pleasure to be cared for by people who seemed happy and genuinely cared about us. The discharge pack was also clearly laid out and discussed with us, with a clear plan that was explained to my daughter as well. The one thing that we could have improved upon was that my daughter was in a bed opposite the desk, having close observations - as was the rocking horse. This horse, whilst very beautiful, was also the focus of attention of less unwell children and therefore quite disruptive. Thank you all for your care.
